Educational Programs at Feather Leaf Farm

Day Camps for Kids

We are developing several half day and full day camp programs for children ages 6-12 during late spring to early fall 2025.

These programs will focus on learning about trees, plants, wildlife, farm animals, and include nature hikes, pond play, scavenger hunts, group problem-solving tasks, and art projects to connect with nature and foster strong human-animal bonds.

Join our mailing list to get announcements and additional information as these camps become available or Contact us for more details.

Field Trips

Starting in spring 2025, we will be open to host field trips for public and private elementary schools.

These field trips may include guided tours of the farm to meet and greet the resident animals and natures hike through the trails to look for Illinois plants, trees, and wild animals.

Learning to be land stewards...

with the help from Chicago Wilderness Alliance (CWA) and Forest Preserve District of Will County (FPDWC). We are taking classes and volunteering with local organizations to learn how to best rehabilitate and preserve Feather Leaf Farm's over 18 acres of forests and grasslands.

You can learn more about how prescribed burns are used in Illinois at Illinois Dept of Natural Resources.

Prairie walks: Learning about Illinois' native plants

Goose Lake Prairie Walk with

Illinois Native Plant Society

We had a wonderful time at Goose Lake Prairie State Park with Illinois Native Plant Society members, scoping out and learning about many different plants in Illinois' largest remaining prairie. Due to agriculture and development, most (greater than 99%) of Illinois' native prairie is gone.

One of our goals at Feather Leaf Farm is to restore some of the open fields back into prairie and oak meadows.
